Social Studies June 8th-12th

Hello my amazing students and welcome to your last week of Online Learning before SUMMER!

I am attaching a fun and exciting final activity. This Time Capsule or Letter to Yourself is going to wrap up our Social Studies class for the year. In the PDF you will see 15 questions for you to answer in the letter. Some questions ask for details. Try to write as much as possible. In the instrutions, it does say 1/2 page for most questions. Do not stress about the length of writing. I want you to write this letter the way you want to, but try to use as much French as possible.

After completing your letter, keep it with you until you graduate. After your Grade 12 year, read your letter. Compare similarities and differences to where you are now and where you were at the time you wrote it. (Hopefully Covid will be GONE!!) Have fun and happy writing!

Hello Scientists!! DID YOU KNOW...

We have the Bay of Fundy right here in our own backyard! We have many living things in the ocean and they like all ecosystems have a food chain.

Watch the 4 minute video by clicking on the link below about whales in the Bay of Fundy located in Grand Manan to see where they are in the food chain and what is beneath them in the chain.

Once you are done the video, answer the following questions below.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7KnCSgOiJQE&feature=youtu.be

Answer the following questions:

1) What is photosynthetic?

2) What is at the beginning or first level of the food chain in the Bay of Fundy?

3) What is at the second level of the food chain in the Bay of Fundy?

4) Draw the food chain that would apply to the video you just watched. Draw it vertically with the lowest level of the food chain at the bottom.

5) What are three other interesting facts you learned in this video about our Bay of Fundy or the living things in it?

6) What would you like to know more about?

Bonjour mes amis!!

I have a fun activity you can complete at home! This Time Capsule will summarise all the different activities you have completed during this quarantine! Have fun & happy learning!

Please continue to have french subtitles on while watching any TV. I know Netflix and Disney+ has French subtitle options for a variety of shows. This is a helpful way to keep you immersed in the French language. Sometimes I like to write down new vocabulary that I have learned.

Keep up the great work!

Testable Questions & Identifying Variables

Good Afternoon Scientists and Happy Monday!

This week, I want you to practice identifying and writing testable questions. Knowing how to write and identify variables will help you come up with an excellent Science Fair Project next year!

Part I: For each scenario, identify the independent variables (changing), the dependent variables (measurable) and the control variables (stay the same):

1. Does the quantity of sunlight affect the amount of tomatoes a tomato plant will produce?

2. Will the weight of the paper affect how the distance a paper airplane travels?

3. Does the type of shoe affect how fast I run in 20 seconds?

4. You decide to clean your bathroom. You want to start with the shower because there appears to be a green substance in it. You decide to clean the green sludge by adding lemonade. You clean one side of the shower using lemonade and the other side by using water. After 3 days of soaking of equal quantities each day, there is no change in appearance of the green sludge on either side of the shower.

Identify the independent, dependent and control variables for this situation.

5. You want to test what size of soccer ball is the easiest to juggle with your body. You test soccer balls varying in sizes, 3, 4 & 5. You measure the time the ball stays in the air after each try. You can use your feets, head and knees to juggle the ball.

Identify the independent, dependent and control variables for this situation.

Part II: Write two fo your own testable questions and identify the variables.

Part III: Find the dependent & indendent variables in these questions. Warning...some are not testable!

ON A BRISTOL BOARD? ON PAPERS/ ETC... YOU CHOOSE. DON'T FORGET TO DRAW OR ADD PICTURE WITH YOUR INFORMATION. 2 WEEKS TO WORK ON THE GOOD COPY.  :)
